NFL Running Back Working at Local Jimmy John's

WACO (February 21, 2013) -- Jimmy John's is known being freaky fast. And, unofficially, downtown Waco is now the fastest in the country.
"I wouldn't say that. I don't know that I could say that in good conscience," said assistant manager David Poe.
But, then again, there's only one Jimmy John's in the country with the speed of an NFL running back behind the counter.
"I recognized the name from going to football games, but I didn't put two and two together until people said we're going to have a pro football star working for us," said Josh Little.
Terrance Ganaway graduated from Baylor with 13 rushing records to his name but he's still trying to perfect the art of sandwich making. (NAT)
"A fullback dive has always been a fullback dive, no matter the language of it. But when they say Italian nightclub or number 9, you're like what is the number 9?!"
Ganaway makes nearly minimum wage at Jimmy John's, a far cry from his day job in the NFL.
"I've had people say you need to buy stocks in Jimmy John's not work at Jimmy John's."
Investing might be a bit more profitable than getting behind the counter. It would take Ganaway 86 years at Jimmy john's to make the kind of money he made in his first NFL season.
"I'm just staying out of trouble and finding something to keep me busy," Ganaway said.
But he also takes his work very seriously.
"He needed to know the menu before he started working. He showed up the first day and knew almost all of it. To be quite frank with you, not all of our employees know it the first day."
And having an NFL running back making sandwiches means a lot more people want to buy sandwiches.
"We get calls a lot, we get people asking if he's working," said Poe.
"The store has blown up a bunch simply from him being here. People want to come in and see him, take pictures with him and get autographs," Little said.
And Ganaway is finding his own way to get customers in the door. He offered to give away an autographed rookie card to each 25th customer.
"I gave a card out to a guy who didn't really think I was Terrance Ganaway."
He doesn't have to convince his co-workers he plays in the NFL. In fact, they're excited about their claim to fame.
"I know that guy. That's basically all that guy. I know him. I used to work with him. Nobody's going to believe me."
And if you still find it hard to believe an NFL running back is behind a fast food counter, feel free to stop in and have a sandwich, made by the fast Jimmy john's employee in America.
