Shreveport (August 28, 2012) -- Louisiana Tech University officials have announced this afternoon that the season opening football game on Thursday between Texas A&M and Louisiana Tech in Shreveport has been postponed.
The game will be played on Saturday, October 13.
The movement of Tropical Storm Isaac over the weekend toward the Louisiana Gulf Coast and its development into a Category One hurricane caused university officials in Ruston to rethink the season opening contest between Texas A&M and Louisiana Tech.
With both teams having "open dates" on that Saturday, both institutions agreed on October 13th versus moving it to sometime Saturday, September 1st.
With today's announcement that means Texas A&M's season opener will also be its SEC opener against Florida at Kyle Field and the team will play 12 straight games from September 8th through November 24th.
The decision to move the game was not based on weather conditions that would be taking place at game time, but rather fan safety.
