UMHB Remains At No. 2 In Polls

Belton (November 5, 2012) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team held its ground in both major national polls this week as the Cru remained #2 in the nation in both the American Football Coaches Association’s Top 25 and the D3football.com Top 25. UMHB has now been ranked second in the nation in both polls for eight straight weeks.

The Cru grabbed one first place vote and 1,007 total points to hold steady at #2 in this week’s AFCA Top 25 Poll. Mount Union is ranked #1 with 41 first place votes and 1,049 total points. UMHB is the only American Southwest Conference program ranked in the top 25 this week, but Louisiana College and Hardin-Simmons are both receiving votes this week. Wesley College remained #5 in the country in the AFCA Top 25 Poll this week. The Cru has beaten Wesley, Louisiana College and HSU already this season.

The Cru also remained second in the country in the D3football.com Top 25 Poll. UMHB took one first place vote and 598 total points in that ranking. Mount Union took the other 24 first place votes and 624 total points to claim the #1 spot. Wesley College is also ranked fifth by D3football.com and Louisiana College is receiving votes in that poll.

“Building this team has been a process all season and that continues,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “I’m not sure we are exactly where we want to be yet, but we are always excited to be in the playoffs. We are not looking ahead to the postseason yet, because we still have goals to accomplish and winning our last regular season game is one of our goals. That is where our focus needs to be this week; we’ve got to go get ready to play Mississippi College.”

UMHB is 9-0 overall on the season and 6-0 in ASC play after beating East Texas Baptist University 54-20 last Saturday in Marshall. That victory clinches the ASC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the Cru and guarantees at least a share of the ASC title. The team can clinch the outright championship and virtually guarantee itself a #1 seed in the postseason with a victory in the regular season finale this weekend. UMHB will close out the regular season with a 1:00 PM home kickoff against Mississippi College (2-7, 1-5 ASC) this Saturday at Tiger Field.
