FARMERS BRANCH (March 2, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team split the final day of the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament with a 9-2 loss to East Texas Baptist and a 21-0 win over Ozarks. UMHB moves to 5-5 on the season while East Texas Baptist concludes the tournament with an 8-0 season record and Ozarks at 5-3.
The Cru jumped to an early 2-0 lead over East Texas Baptist with an RBI double from Caitlin Bollier and a sacrifice fly from Dayton Kunz. UMHB held that lead until the fourth inning, when the Tigers added three runs to take the lead. East Texas Baptist added five more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to earn the 9-2 lead. UMHB recorded seven hits and two errors in the game while East Texas Baptist had 15 hits and one error.
UMHB used an early offensive explosion to put distance on Ozarks in the second game of the day, leading the Eagles 8-0 after the first inning. The Cru added nine runs in the second inning and four more in the third to earn the 21-0 win. Ozarks recorded eight hits and nine errors in the game while UMHB had 18 hits and no errors.
Victoria Gomez, Kourtney Bevers and Chandler Henson all had three hits for the Cru. Henson, Gomez, Leanne Hinojosa, Ariel Kemmerer and Bollier all put three runs apiece on the board for UMHB. Rebekah Ragsdale took the loss to East Texas Baptist for the Cru, allowing 12 hits and six earned runs while striking out one batter. Kemmerer earned the Cru’s win over Ozarks, striking out four batters in three innings and allowing just five hits.
UMHB will return to action March 8th in a weekend series at Concordia-Texas. The Cru will play a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. on March 8th and a 2 p.m. on March 9th.
