UMHB Volleyball Opens Fall Practices

Belton (August 19, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team opened its 2013 fall camp with the first set of practices on Monday. Head Coach Rob Frost welcomed 13 athletes to the floor for the first of three practice sessions early Monday morning.

The Cru returns just five letter winners from the most successful team in school history. The 2012 Cru volleyball team went 22-8 and advances to the semifinals of the 2012 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. Shelby Prather, Lauren Powell, Kendra Feldman, Kendall Pye and Cheyenne Dowdey return for their sophomore seasons with the Cru. Prather led the Cru in assists (931) last season while Dowdey was the Cru’s leading blocker (80).

“This is the most fit we have been since I came to UMHB,” Frost said. “We look good but there is still a lot of work to be done. I’m excited for the upcoming season.”

The Cru will officially open the 2013 season with a home tournament August 30th-31st. The Cru play four matches over the course of the two-day tournament, beginning with Huston-Tillotson on Friday, Aug. 30th at 2:30 p.m. in the Mayborn Campus Center.
