With many high powered shows, CBS didn’t have a lot of changes to make with their fall 2009 lineup. But the age on some of the shows, notably “CSI:,” is starting to show so some schedule movement was necessary for the network to keep it’s number one standing: Sunday nights have “60 Minutes” and “The Amazing Race” leading into the new show “Three Rivers.” One of many medical dramas coming next year, it follows the stories of organ donors, recipients and their surgeons. It stars Alex O’Loughlin, who guest starred in a creepy episode of “Criminal Minds” this year, but is probably better known as the vampire on “Moonlight” from last season. “Cold Case,” a show that was on the bubble for returning, ends the night at 9pm (or later during football season).
The Monday night comedies do a little moving around with “How I Met Your Mother” starting the night off, followed by “Accidentally on Purpose.” This show stars Jenna Elfman and revolves a single woman, who has a one night stand with a younger guy, and realizes that she “accidentally” gets pregnant. Um, alright.
“Two and a Half Men” stays at 8pm and “The Big Bang Theory” moves into its new time slot behind it. Horatio Caine and his sunglasses on “CSI: Miami” stay in their same time slot at 9pm.
Tuesday night starts with “NCIS” followed by spinoff “NCIS: Los Angeles.” If you saw the two part “Legend” episode when the normal NCIS guys went to LA, then you know who’s in the show. Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J. They are undercover agents. But I really wish CBS would have named the show differently. Too many “CSI” and “Law & Order” shows on the air already.
They are followed by another new show, “The Good Wife.” Starring Emmy winner Julianna Margulies, it takes place when a politician's corruption and sex scandal lands him in jail, leaving his wife to pick up the pieces. She re-enters the workforce by joining a Chicago law firm in order to take responsibility for the family. Pretty good cast here with Chris Noth (Mike Logan on “Law and Order” for the guys, Mr. Big on “Sex and the City” for the ladies), Josh Charles, and Christine Baranski.
Wednesday has no changes from last year. “Old Christine,” Gary Unmarried,” “Criminal Minds,” and “CSI:NY” continue their nightly dominance.
Thursday has “Survivor” back for season #19 in Samoa. “CSI:” keeps it’s normal timeslot at 8pm. “The Mentalist,” last year’s only new show hit gets the privilege of the prime 9pm Thursday night spot.
Friday nights keep “Ghost Whisperer” and “Numb3rs” in their same time slots at seven and nine, but the NBC show “Medium” is now in the middle at 8pm.
Confused? Why did CBS pick up “Medium” from NBC? The show is a CBS company property. They know that making more episodes will make it more profitable when they sell it into syndication. That’s where a lot of shows that weren’t big hits can clean up (see “According To Jim”) or get noticed and drive up the ratings of new episodes of the show (see “NCIS”). “Medium” also has a huge fan base that is giddy the show was picked up.
Saturday nights continue the tradition of showing reruns of the crime shows and “48 Hours Mystery.”
So here’s the lineup, night by night:
SUNDAY
6:00-7:00 PM, 60 MINUTES
7:00-8:00 PM, THE AMAZING RACE
8:00-9:00 PM, THREE RIVERS (New show) 9:00-10:00PM, COLD CASE
MONDAY
7:00-7:30 PM, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
7:30-8:00 PM, ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE (New show)
8:00-8:30 PM, TWO AND A HALF MEN 8:30-9:00 PM, THE BIG BANG THEORY
9:00-10:00PM, CSI: MIAMI
TUESDAY
7:00-8:00 PM, NCIS
8:00-9:00 PM, NCIS: LOS ANGELES (New show) 9:00-10:00PM, THE GOOD WIFE (New show)
WEDNESDAY
7:00-7:30 PM, THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE
7:30-8:00 PM, GARY UNMARRIED
8:00-9:00 PM, CRIMINAL MINDS 9:00-10:00PM, CSI: NY
THURSDAY
7:00-8:00 PM, SURVIVOR: SAMOA
8:00-9:00 PM, CSI:
9:00-10:00PM, THE MENTALIST
FRIDAY
7:00-8:00 PM, GHOST WHISPERER
8:00-9:00 PM, MEDIUM (Transfer from NBC) 9:00-10:00PM, NUMB3RS
SATURDAY
7:00-8:00 PM, CRIMETIME SATURDAY
8:00-9:00 PM, CRIMETIME SATURDAY 9:00-10:00PM, 48 HOURS MYSTERY
Now for the shows taken away:
ELEVENTH HOUR: It never really hooked viewers even though it had the biggest CBS show as a lead in.
WITHOUT A TRACE: Was on the bubble all year because of costs. However, considering this show was a powerhouse for seven seasons and started the trend of CBS being the #1 network, it should have gotten a better sendoff than it did. But the final scene (flashback pictures of all the missing people from the show’s run) was pretty cool.
THE UNIT: I can tell you I’m still mad about this. I’m not ready to talk about it. I don’t think I’ll ever be over this. The season finale left you with a “What the heck is going to happen next year?” feeling. Now, it’s not coming back. Seriously CBS? Seriously?? Molly just left Jonas for goodness sake! You can’t give us a few more episodes to wrap this up right?!?!
So how do you like the schedule? See any shows here that you are looking forward to, or some you think have no chance of succeeding?

With Cold Case in doubt and without a Trace gone That leaves me with one CBS show to watch. The Mentalist. Once thought CBS was my leader in shows but I think now I'll have to look else where. Posted by: Kim Location: New Orleans I have never watch an episode of NCIS and it doesn't make sense to have two shows back to back of a show that is not that popular to me. The Unit had a different take on catching the bad guys from our men in the military. It will definitely be missed by me and i'm sure many of other viewers also. Posted by: Mike Gibson Location: Huntington,WV. I can not believe With Out A Trace is not going to return. Of all the shows that youcould take off why this one? Also The Unit. Posted by: Ron Location: Central Texas I heard that THE UNIT has been picked up for reruns by another Group. If true when is it scheduled to happen? As far as I am concern i would rather watch reruns of an excellent show than most of the new stuff coming out today. Posted by: Edith Location: Huntsville, Alabama BRING BACK THE UNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted by: Leish Location: VA I'm more angry than I can intelligently state about the UNIT being taken off the air. I and most of my friends love this show but not any more than my husband and his friends. The UNIT has been a high point in all of their deployments whether they were in a place with access to streaming video or they had to watch recordings. I can not believe they would take this show away. It was one of the very few on today that offered more than mediocre entertainment. Posted by: Jim Location: Mississippi Bring back The Unit! A real action show. Thanks for keeping NCIS & picking up Medium. Friday is now the big night. Posted by: Heidi Location: N.C. What happened to Flash Point? Bring back the Unit! Posted by: Hosea Location: Arkansas I was born in 1950. Television played a big part of my 60's development. Saturday nights were always a time to enjoy TV. Now,Saturday night is the worst for TV viewing. When is someone going to stepupto the plate a put something good on for Saturday night. Posted by: Krista Location: PA I am very excited for ncis old and new along with all the csi's but i am very disapointed that you removed without a trace and deffinaly mad that you took off eleventh hour i mean you didnt even give it a chance 1 season isnt enough time to make that kind of decission. Also i would love it if you put on another series like Harpers Island that was the best show on TV this last season!!!!!!! Posted by: Mike Location: Louisiana Im glad to see that reality shows are getting thined. have never cared for all of them, also why is "THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE" still around? Never did care for this one. I am a fan of all csi's, numbers, and ncis. I just wonder whatever happened to "SHARK" staring "James Woods")? Would have liked to see that one come back. As for "THE UNIT" lost interest in it when it came back on. The writers of this show have tried to get way too many subplots going. It they bring it back need to cut back on them or else take care of the subplots in that same episode are maybe the next week. Posted by: Liam Location: Arizona About the only show I'll watch will be "Medium" - smart call by CBS. Outside of that, I'm an ABC fan through and through. Can't wait for "LOST" to return and the premieres of "FlashForward" and "V". I may just check out the new "Melrose Place" on FOX also. Posted by: lee Location: florida i'm so disappointed that they didn't bring without a trace..that was an awesome show and really didn't end the way i would want a show to end after being on 7 years ...i'm glad that they kept coldcase and criminal minds...but, eleventh hour was just getting interesting and you never see the revenge for his wifes death ..not good that they did that .... i never watched the unit but ...a lot of people liked it Posted by: BOB Location: PALM BAY FL DO NOT FEEL GOOD ABOUT THE GOOD WIFE PERHAPS ONE HALF SEASON Posted by: Valasteen Hooper Location: delaware My favorite show was the Unit and I don't like the way it left us hanging. I too would like some closure with the Molly and Jonas situation since they are not going to bring it back. Without a trace was my second favorite show. I loved the mystery and it was a challenge trying to figure out the endings. How come they can't be placed on the saturday night slots with 48 hours. There is enough CSI shows and after a while they will loose viewers or the new show may take away from the current shows ratings. Posted by: Ed Location: Pennsylvania It seems that CBS is going down the same road as FOX. Let the network scheduling be ruled by the "reality" shows. it shows the bottom line.....money talks...good programming walks (Eleventh Hour; Without a Trace, etc.). Posted by: Felicia Location: Texas I am very disappointed that CBS cancelled The Unit. I rarely watch television because of all of the reality shows that have taken over but The Unit is one show that I truly enjoyed. If CBS knew that they were going to cancel the show then why not take it off the air with a better ending that we all could understand and not with a cliffhanger that will keep its viewers guessing as to what happen between the characters Jonas and Molly. Posted by: diane Location: hamilton, ont I AM PISSED OFF ELEVENTH HOUR WAS THE BEST SHOW EVER VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT IT IS NOT COMING BACK I GOT MY SISTER MY GRANDMOTHER MY MOTHER ALL HOOKED ON IT AND THAT IS THE ONE SHOW I LOOKED FORWARD TO WATCHING ON THURSDAY NIGHT SI AM JUST TICKED OFF NOW Posted by: Citizen Location: Texas I watch your local news and NCIS. I don't watch anything else on Network TV. The rest of the shows are really dumb. Posted by: Beverly Location: Texas Looks like CBS is trying to sink to the bottom like ABC and NBC. The Unit and Without a Trace were two of about about 6 CBS shows I'm interested in. Guess I'll be upgrading my satellite movie/channel options if CBS continues its downward spiral. Posted by: Not surprised Location: waco They cancel good programs tos tuff stupid programs such as "Ole Christine"> some of thses so called comedys are too stupid for a 5 year old. Get with it folks. Have some thing on that doesn't put you to sleep. Better yet, turn the TV off. Posted by: Marta Location: North Carolina Let me get this straight... CBS is adding yet another NCIS immediately after the old one and yet another "Medium" immediately after Ghost Whisperer. But they are cancelling two shows which have no equals - The Unit and Without a Trace. Well, that certainly makes sense. About as much sense as ending two well-liked series such as these with such abruptness. Here's a thought: instead of cancelling a series, why not try some new writers? a new storyline? Or if you're intent on shutting down a show, how about some kind of ending? Maybe a Shakespearean tragedy--and they all die. Or make it a happy ending. But please give us some resolution for the characters we've been watching. Posted by: Josh Location: Idaho I am so bummed about the Unit not coming back (Bummed is an understatement). I have only a few TV shows I even watch and the Unit was one of them. So instead of the Unit we will continue to have 3 different shows of CSI and now 2 different shows of NCIS. I felt this year of the Unit was one of the better seasons. I agree with some of the viewers..if CBS wants to cancel a show, at least have an episode with some closure or bring back a final season where everyone will know it's the final season and again, you can have closure. I am with Deborah from Georgia, I will becareful to get involved with any more shows from CBS because with my luck, they will just cancell it. Posted by: NonyMouse Location: Mouseville I am another one who thought The Unit was better than a lot of shows they kept. Posted by: Dewey Location: Pierce I can not believe that they have canceled The Unit. It is the one show that my wife and I can hardly wait to see. I guess that C B S just does not care what the viewer's watch. At least now I will not have to worry about getting home to watch C B S on Sundays anymore. Posted by: brenda Location: texas I am glad to see most of the shows gone. But Eleventh Hour that was an awsome show that alli had after er. Need to give it another chane now that er is gone. And worst week ever that was an awsome show also me and my sister laughed our butts off on that show. The shows you should get rid of like ncis and law and order show are still around. Put something on saturday nights worth watching please Posted by: Eileen Location: Michigan Bravo to CBS for picking up "Medium", one of my favorites and one of the best shows on TV. NBC continues to be a loser! Posted by: Natalie Location: California I can't wait to see hot and sexy Alex O'Loughlin. I used to watch him on Moonlight and I will watch him in whatever project whether it be on tv or in film. He is a super talent like the other Aussies Hugh Jackman and Simon Baker. Posted by: Deborah Location: Georgia I still can't believe that CBS cancelled The Unit. I watched the show since the first episode and thought it was one of the best shows on tv.I watch CBS more than any other network and can't believe they made such a stupid decision. If the show was being cancelled why leave us hanging and making it look like it would be back. Why leave the ending where viewers don't know what happened to any of the characters.I for one wanted to know what the future held for these characters. I loved Jonas and Molly and all the rest of the couples. I really loved the new character Sam (Whiplash).Couldn't CBS at least have given us a better last episode or extended it to 2 hours to show what happens with everyone.I am very disappointed with the decision to cancel this show and will think twice before I get hooked on another CBS show. Posted by: Scott Pumphrey Location: Kentucky CBS just lost a longtime viewer with the cancelling of The UNit. I personally thought this was the best show on T.V. What are they thinking? Adding more criminal investigation and doctor shows is bordering idiotic. Hopefully, someone will be smart enough to bring The Unit back this fall. Posted by: Tom Location: Massachusetts Two NCIS's on Tuesday is stupid. After 3 weeks people will be tired of watching NCIS type stories and both shows will suffer. I say switch back The Mentalist to Tuesday and the new NCIS to Thursday. I also watched the Unit and Without a Trace, sorry to see them go. Will probably have to catch different shows on other networks. Posted by: Peggy Location: Texas There is nothing on TV worth watching. I think it needs to be looked at a family entertainment. The TV Producer need to revamp the programming and get something deceit to watch. We watch on shows because the new shows are just awful. Posted by: jake Location: texas My family is also angry that cbs canceled without a trace! Not looking forward to the new shows as they seem to be pretty flaky! We will still watch ncis(wont watch the new one), criminal minds and cold case(we thought for sure that cold case would get axed and are happy it didnt)! We seem to be watching less and less network tv and are opting for usa, a&e and we've been watching more on the history & national geographic channels! Right now we are watching season one of "picket fences" on dvd! Now that was a fantastic show! Posted by: Marilyn Location: Texas I am very disappointed about the unit. I dont watch much tv but that is a winner Posted by: Caro Location: llolnetwork.ning.com I'm am so excited about Alex O'Loughlin and his new show Three Rivers. Can't wait for fall to get here! Posted by: Sylvia Location: Illinois Can't wait for Three Rivers & Alex O'Loughlin. Its about time we get him back in a regular series! Posted by: Julie Location: Arizona I am so upset Without A Trace is not returning. CBS is making a mistake - it has such a great following. I think if that was going to be the last episode you could have done a better send off! Bring WAT back! Posted by: Dell Location: TV Blog Good catch on Worst Week, e. It won't be back. But the David Space show "Rules Of Engagement" will probably come back mid-season. Posted by: e What about that stupid show with David Spade and Worst Week? I didn't think Worst Week could last. Seemed more like a drawn out movie. But kind of funny. Posted by: David Now I remember why the News is the only thing I see on KWTX. Posted by: Dell Location: TV Blog Bill, we are in the central time zone. For us it will be at 9pm. Thanks for stopping by! Posted by: Bill Bailey Location: Los Angeles Hey you said the Mentalist gets the plum Thursday 9pm slot. It's actually going on at 10pm after CSI, which stays the same. Posted by: Selenne Location: Lake Elsinore omg im just so freakin glad they did not end NCIS becuase i love that show! and the new show looks pretty good too but i think the oringal will always be better even tho look what happend to JAG. but yeahh I LOVE NCIS! TIVA FAN! Posted by: dolores Location: st, pete. fla. II am very sorry to see that "Without a Trace" was taken off, my favorite, Posted by: TTKBRAMIREZ Location: Oregon I can't believe they got rid of the Unit, it is such a good show and to be honest one of the only cbs shows I watched being that all the ncis and csi shows are played out. |
