He's a five-time Pro Bowler. A former MVP of the NFL.  He owns or shares 28 Chargers team records.  But, today LaDainian Tomlinson was just another customer at Schmaltz sandwich shop in downtown Waco.

I'll have to say, with my job, I've met alot of famous people.  But I can't remember being so excited about running into someone before, than I was today when I crossed paths with LaDainian Tomlinson.  Maybe it's because it wasn't a planned interview, or maybe it's because I left that sandwich shop thinking those aren't just stories you hear. LT is genuine and very nice.

I had just finished my workout  today and was grabbing a quick call in order at Schmaltz around the noon hour , when I found myself standing in line behind the famous running back.   It actually took him turning around, for me to catch a glimpse of who he was.   He'd probably been in line in front of me for 5 minutes before I realized it.  He was dressed in his workout gear and looked like he'd just come from his annual camp that's in town this week.

Since he was literally inches away,  I couldn't help but tap on his shoulder and tell him how much Waco appreciates him and how fun it's been to cover him in the media for so many years.  He couldn't have been nicer...flashing that smile I'd seen so many times before on-camera, and taking time to visit with me while he paid the cashier.   He eventually made his way over to the corner table where he sat with his three friends.  He was even kind enough to say goodbye to me again when I made my way out the door.

I've always been a fan of LaDainian Tomlinson, not because I'm a huge football fan, though he's incredible to watch, but because of all the great things he does off the field, too.  For instance, every home Chargers games, Tomlinson donates tickets to 21 under-privileged kids. Then, after the game, he takes the kids out for dinner and a night on the town. And, at the end of the night, each kid leaves with a goodie bag full of games and school supplies.

And think about why he's in Waco.    Every year, the NFL superstar puts on his camp here, giving local kids the chance to meet and learn from one of the best the game has ever seen.  LT doesn't have to make time in his busy schedule for Waco, but every year, he does.  If that's not proof LT hasn't forgotten his roots I don't know what is.

There are plenty of celebrities and athletes that forget where they came from. LaDainian Tomlinson is not one of them.  And he proved that once again today during his lunch stop to a restaurant I suspect he enjoyed, long before the world knew the name LT.

Hi Julie, I have been a veiwer of your s for several years, and have enjoyed your investigative reporting. Two week ago, Oncor, who subcontracts from TXU, came to our homes and replaced the power meter to it. Before my voltage was a standard 110volt to 124 volts. Now since the replacement of the new digetal meters, I am receiving from 134 to 139 volts. This increase in power will not only drive my bill up, but it caused some older appliances(T,V., microwave, phones, and other electrical apperatious in our home to burn out.Oncore will not return my calls. Ocore is chargeing $2.21 per month for eleven years to pay for these new meters.the jobs saved by reduceing man hours should pay for this meter. Julie please look into these quistion and get back to me Thanks for your time , and your service at KWTX. Jim Drake 254-760-5381

Julie, I couldnt see where else to post this I am hoping you will catch it. I was contacted yestrday evening for Chet Edwards town hall meeting and therefore cancelled plans so that I could be a part of it. I waited by the phone but the only call I received was an automated call saying he apoligized for missing me at 6:34 pm. He did not miss me I was waiting for the event. Did this happen to a number of people and if it did can it be addressed with Mr. Edwards? If not I would like to know why, I received the call to attend and then never got the chance to be a part of it. I am very upset and sent an e-mail to Mr. Edwards. I would like to know just how many central texans experinced this same thing. I hope to hear from ya'll on this issue. Thank you Julie Gegogeine

He is a SUPER person. He doesn't walk around and act like he's better than everyone else. My son has attended his camp for the last 6 years. LT and his coaching staff are all great people. I couldn't ask for anyone any better to coach my son and help him get better in the great sport of football. We will be at his camp every year until we graduate high school. If there were a lot more athletes with the attitude that LT has the world would be a better place.

I am a huge football fan wether it be pro or high school. I have a grandson that attended LT's camp for the first time this year. Oh my gosh! He loved it. LT awarded Logan the Best All-Around Offensive Player. The camp not only taught football stratgy, but taught teamwork, leadership and self-confidence. The LT camp also provided a positive environment to promote respect and positive motivation. I am so thankful to LT for all he and his staff has done for these kids. God Bless You, LT.

I wish more professional athletes carried themselves in this matter.Kids look up to these guys and they are big role models in their lives. I hope this behavior rubs off on many people. It only takes one person one moment to change a childs life.

He is a great person on and off the field. I am really proud of the work he has done with children. My grandson attened his Camp LT for the past 7 years and he loved LT and all the coaches. He could not attend this year due to a bone dying in his left elbow and has been in a cast. It is not healing and will most likely have surgery in the next 2-3 weeks by a Texas Rangers surgeon. Not sure if he will ever play football again, but he treasures all the memories with LT and his staff and was awarded several awards in the years he attended. He was so sad that he could not attend this year. I am so grateful to LT and his staff for all the wonderful work they do.

Posted by: Anonymous Simply an incredible individual. The true definition of a class individual

Posted by: Huge fan He is awesome and I'm proud of the work he has done both on and off the field. Wish there was more like him.
