Greetings from San Antonio. I've been in this great city for about a day now ... here are some observations from my trip so far:
* This town really supports this event. You can't go anywhere along the Riverwalk without being reminded that the Final 4 is here. All of the bars and restaurants have women's hoops fever. It makes for a great atmosphere.
* Adam, Julie, and I had a chance to spend a little bit of time with Trey Wingo of ESPN last night (and his Dad, also a BU alum). They couldn't have been nicer people. They chatted with us for about fifteen minutes about the TV business, women's hoops, Baylor, and great places to eat in Waco. Getting to hang out with them last night was definitely the highlight of the trip so far.
* Brittney Griner will be a big story down here (pardon the pun). Everybody is talking about her. Baylor fans, the media, neutral observers, they all bring up Griner in some point during every conversation about the teams down here. Heck, at breakfast this morning my waitress went on and on about how good Griner is, and how big a fan she is of the Lady Bears. I asked her if she was a Baylor fan. She said no, and that she hadn't even set foot in Waco before. That shows you the impact that this 6'8 superstar has already had on her sport.
That's all for now, I'm about to head off to the dome to do some interviews of both teams. We'll have reports tonight at ten and on 254sports.com.
