High school football practices start in less than 3 weeks here in Central Texas. So that means in the very near future most of my sportscasts will center around the dozens of great teams in the area, and we we can expect from them on the field. But before that happens, I wanted to remind everyone that these kids do more than just star on the field. Many of them are stars in their community as well.
A good example of just that is happening at Waco High School. This spring the football team completed a Reading Cub Program in that last six weeks. The team's players visited several local elementary schools, and read to the kids. They also wrote letters to the kids trying to encourage them before TAKS testing began.

I have no doubt that Waco High is one of many schools where things like this are happening. Student-athletes at the high school and college athlete donate their time and their abilities all over Central Texas year round. I see plenty of them at the KWTX studios each year during our "Food For Families" event.
So to all the athletes in the area that are making a difference in the community, I say keep up the good work!
