Baylor is among 11 teams receiving votes in this week's Associated Press Top 25. That ranks the Bears 32nd in the country. **Note UT is 29th. BU is also among 13 teams receiving votes in the latest USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches polls. Baylor received 10 points in the AP Poll -- the seventh-most among schools receiving votes and the highest tally this season for the Bears. With Baylor receiving votes in each poll this week, it marks the first time in the Art Briles era that the Bears have received votes in both polls in the same week.
This past Saturday, Sophomore Quarterback, Robert Griffin III led his team to a 55-7 beatdown over Kansas. The blowout over KU was the most lopsided conference victory ever in school history. The Bears had never won a Big 12 game by more than 28 points. Griffin threw for a career-best 380 yards and was named as the Conference's Offensive Player of the Week. Griffin's TD pass after the bad snap even made ESPN Sportscenter's Top 10 plays....#3 to be exact.
In my last Baylor Football Blog, I predicted that BU would beat KU 21-13. Boy was I sure off. But then again, who actually predicted such a blowout?! In that Blog, "Next Two Are Crucial For Baylor," I mentioned that the next two games for Baylor were crucial in reaching a bowl game this season...(6 total wins). Well since that blog was posted, BU picked up those two "crucial" wins and is now 4-1 on the year; just two wins away from reaching 6 and a possible bowl game appearance.
Looking at the upcoming schedule, Baylor plays against (2-2, 0-2) Texas Tech at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. My newest prediction is this... If Baylor beats Tech this Saturday Oct. 9th, the Green & Gold will be ranked in the AP's Top 25. Guarranteed! At that point they would deserve it too. Also, another prediction...the week after, Oct. 16, Baylor plays at (3-1, 0-0) Colorado, which is a very winable game. Coach Briles' team would win that game and would then be 6-1...the school's best start in years. That would make 6 wins; that would be a bowl game ladies and gentlemen. I know I'm jumping the gun a little bit early here, but I've been on the field for every game this season (home and away) and this 2010 BU team is legit. They have all the confidence in the world right now. That 45-10 Loss at TCU is nowhere near the minds of anyone on the sideline.
Here are my predictions from a few weeks ago...If I could, I'd go back and change my pick for the Texas Tech Game. Baylor's gonna win that one.
Oct 9 @ Texas Tech (10-35) LOSS Game played on neutral site, Tech still has the advantage.
Oct 16 @ Colorado (24-21) WIN Good road win for the Bears, which is rare for Coach Briles.
Oct 23 Kansas State (28-21) WIN ***6th win on the year; BU becomes bowl eligible.
Oct 30 @ Texas (7-42) LOSS Horns played in the BCS Championship Game last year for a reason.
Nov 4 @ Oklahoma State (14-35) LOSS The "O" in OSU stands for OFFENSE. Already scored 171 points this season.
Nov 13 Texas A&M (28-31) LOSS Or perhaps a win for BU...I wouldn't be surprised.
Nov 20 Oklahoma (21-35) LOSS OU is overrated, almost lost at home to Utah State.
