Last week was extremely hot, so it got me to thinking... "Was last week the hottest week on record?"
The answer is No, but from the records I was able to dig up will go down as the 3rd hottest 7-day period on record!
The hottest week we have ever seen was between August 8th and August 14th of 1969. During that 7-day period we saw the hottest temperature ever recorded at the Waco Regional Airport (112° on 8/11/69). In addition to the record high, we also recorded the 3rd hottest temperature, and two days that tied for the 5th hottest on record.
The average high temperature during that week was 108°!
The second hottest week on record was back in 2000, between August 30th and September 5th.
We reached 111° during that week (9/4/00) which is the 2nd hottest temperature recorded at Waco Regional Airport, and hottest September temperature ever recorded.
That week set the record for the most 105°+ days in a row at 6.
Our average high temperature during that week was 107.4°
Now that brings us to last week... The 3rd hottest 7-day period on record.
During the first 6 days of that week we tied or broke the record high each of those days.
We also tied the record set back in 2000 of 6 days in a row at or above 105°.
Our average afternoon high during that week was 106.7°!
Let me know of a hot week that you remember, and I will let you know how it compares to these weeks!
Below is a list of the 10 hottest temperatures recorded at the Waco Regional Airport.
** I do want to note a couple of things... First, all of the data is from the Waco Regional Airport. Second, there are no official list of the hottest weeks in Central Texas, I just went and looked through the record books, so there is a small possibility that I may have missed a week during my research... Thanks for reading!
