Travel Nightmare

Okay -- we've all had them at this point -- the trip that just won't seem to end. With travel delays reaching record setting levels, we've all experienced some kind of travel nightmare. Mine happened this past week.

I was returning to Texas after visiting my mom in Pittsburgh. I was due to leave Pittsburgh around noon (11 central time) fly into Memphis, catch the connection, and be in Austin by 330.

For legal reasons I won't mention which airline I was flying...but...as we're getting ready to leave the gate in Pittsburgh, the pilot announces that 17 of the 50 passengers aboard will have to leave the plane because the flight is over it's weight limit! The delay getting people off the plane, then having them get their luggage caused us to leave an hour late. Needless to say I missed my connection.

I then spent the next seven hours sitting in the Memphis airport waiting for my next flight, which was due to leave at 7:50. We actually didn't even end up leaving until nine because of a flight crew delay. By the time we landed in Austin, an hour late, another plane was already at our gate and we had to wait another half hour on the runway until it was moved!

OKAY...in the grand scheme of things, if this is the worst thing that happens to me I am a blessed person. In retrospect, I suppose it is a good thing they got those addition 17 people off the plane in Pittsburgh instead of letting us fly on an overloaded jet.

The airline did feel bad for me and several other travelers who had our days ruined. On Tuesday I received a call informing me that I will be receiving a travel voucher for future travel. It helps...but trust me, I would rather have had my time back in Memphis!

I always love hearing your stories...please share your own crazy travel experiences.

Travel Nightmare: My wife and I were almost home one night after our Chistian meeting after turning into our drive-way we almos hit a 250 pound feral hog. Rabits and squirrals are always trying to commit suicide. Traveling thru Thornton can be a night mare too at times when the traffic is busy. We thought about moving to a smaller town to try to avoid all the travel nightmares but it's O.K. when we get home. Can you top that one?
