I was at the spring scrimmage this afternoon over at Floyd Casey Stadium. Here are a few of my thoughts on what I saw:
* Robert Griffin looked impressive at quarterback. Griffin graduated early from Copperas Cove in December so he could compete for the starting job this Spring, and it was a good decision. He is definitely in the running for the job. He might occasionally make some mistakes with his arm, but he can do so much with his legs that you've got to think that Art Briles believes that he can really help the Bears.
* Kirby Freeman acts and talks like a seasoned veteran. The transfer from Miami went through plenty of ups and downs at the "U", and you can tell that it's made him a lot stronger. I have no way of knowing if he'll be able to help the Bears on the field this fall, but his maturity will no doubt help things in the locker room.
* The defense looked good for the most part. They weren't as solid against the run as they would like, but they did have a few big time hits.
* And finally, Art Briles is a great guy to interview. He's a reporters dream. Briles is full of energy and he gives you a good answer every time you ask him a question. I am really looking forward to covering his teams over the next few years.
