Peace Out. The famous last words of yet another Baylor Football coach stepping down after another dismal season. First of all. let me admit that what I know about college football and coaching can be summed up in two words. The first one is diddly. What I would like to address is the Coach's choice of these two words, Peace Out, as the last verse of his Swan Song. I have heard people say it was in poor taste. I have heard people say that the coach was nervous and didn't really think that through. I say, way to go Coach Morriss! I think that summed it up perfectly. And you have to give the man credit for the way he "chunked his deuces." That was a nice touch. Yes it did have sort of an old white guy, Richard Nixon flare to it, but it was still effective. Nice style on the deuce, Coach! Not that I'm an expert on that either....being an old white guy , myself.
I don't know the answer to the problem Baylor has of putting together a winning team. Maybe this latest season was the coach's fault. What I do know is that I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Morriss a few times and he seems like a real class act. I'm sad to see him go, but I'm just as anxious as any one to see Baylor with a few more W's and fewer L's.
I have also gotten to know a few of the Baylor players. Brandon Whitaker for example. He took time out of his summer to help out with the city's youth track team. His enthusiasm, professional attitude and undying support of these kids was truly amazing. I wish both of these men nothing but the best in the future. I also hope that the next coach will continue to consider the integrity of the players as well as their abilities on the field. That way even if they loose, they're still winners in my book. Peace Out!
