I'm no legal expert and I'm no gun nut, but it certainly appears to me that gun owners rights are under assault again. I'm referring of course to House Bill 45...otherwise known as the Blair Holt Licensing and Record of Sale Act. It was introduced by Representative Bobby Rush of Illinois. I tried to wade thru the entire bill but I think I get the gist of it...here's the highlights:

1.It will be "unlawful" to own a firearm without a license.

2.Getting a license thru the Attorney General would require a photo and thumbprint and passing a rigorous exam and mental evaluation and release of all mental health records.

3. Gun Owners would have to prove that their firearms are properly stored.

4. it would, in effect makes private sales illegal.

5, Establishes a Federal Record of Sale system which records make, model, serial number, license of the transferee and name and address of the transferor.

6. Provides for inspection of your home.

7. requires reporting of lost or stolen firearms

8. requires notice of change of address.

In my opinion this bill is so ridiculous that it would take a month to pick it apart bit by bit...so again... here's the highlights.

First and foremost the bulk of any laws that infringe on gun ownership will only effect law abiding citizens. Criminals who are already illegally in possession of firearms will love to see this become law because they know they'll meet less armed resistance from the law abiding citizens. Think for a minute how those "Gun Free Zones" are working out.

In the majority of other countries where gun ownership is outlawed, it all started with gun registration. They have to know who owns what, before they can confiscate it. Ask the folks in Britain how their gun control laws are working out.

This law would give the government access to come into your home at any time to see if you're properly storing your registered weapons. Are you kidding me? What's the 4th amendment there for?

I'm thinking that this bill is so ridiculous that it must be some sort of decoy. I believe that they'll come up with another bill that by comparison will seem downright reasonable and not as likely to cause as much concern...but then again what do I know??? Like I said I'm no legal expert nor am I a gun nut, but I do know ridiculous when I see it.

The government HAS to take the guns of THE PEOPLE away before communism can occur. The PEOPLE will have nothing left to defend the Constitution with. Another reason that anyone who voted for "Change" should be VERY HAPPY! The change they get may just be the fall of what we now know as the United States into Communist Chaos!!

For Luke in Des Moines, Hay idiot, why don't you proceed to the nearest federal military installation with your sidearm and commence shooting everything in sight. I'm sure that you can do it, you lead no one to believe you can't pass a background check; however you are a thousand miles away from here and NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU SAY!!! Please bother the folks in your mid west township and SHUT UP!

You know this country is already a total mess! The one that try's to take my guns that have been in my family for years will go away with a load of buckshot! Don't the elected officials have enough to do that would correct the many things that are all wrong with our country. They need to clean their on house and make things right instead of hunting something else to bother hardworking americans that pay their salary. Let's get a new goverment in Washington then let's talk about guns.

The gun issue baffles me. In 1776 when folks lived miles apart and there were no police, no telephone to call for help it was essential for everyone to have a shotgun for the bandits. Why can't people move on with times. This should not be in the category of "right". It should be an item used for leisure and hunting. It should be listed as you would list a baseball bat. You have the item in your home, if someone breaks in you have it to protect yourself whether it is a double barrel gun, baseball bat or knife. There is nothing passionate about a baseball bat why are people so passionate about their guns as if we are still in the 1800's. "Bobby Ray bring my shotgun from the shed, I see about 20 bandits riding in this direction about 2 miles yonder there".

I do agree that a law such as this one if ever past would be rediculous and would only make it easy for criminals to acess homes and buisness onwners property.I for one wish that just for once the goverment would make it harder for criminals not honest tax paying citizens.

I agree this is going a little to far for us gun owners. Personally I don't think it will ever get passed. It would be to time consuming for the whole process. I don't think they thought this crazy idea through. kind of like the cash for clunkers program. ha..ha.. All I can say is good luck passing this one.

If I was a gun owner like Gordon, I would shoot a pin raised deer out of a high fence ranch and get Jeff to put me on the cover of his magazine.

I feel very sorry for those who are afraid of guns. They seem to lack the ability to understand how this world functions. Guns do not kill, people kill. I am retired military and former law enforcement and I have never had to use a firearm outside the line of duty. Hundreds of trained unarmed fighting men could not stop the killer at Ft. Hood but one young lady with a weapon accomplished the task tidily. All Americans should have access to a weapon and proper training. In a criminal action unarmed citizens are called "victims". In my years of adulthood I have twice been given reason to fear for my family, on both occasions the fact that I let it be known that I was armed and willing to repel any type of assault defused the situation enough to allow my family safety. I know that any lesser response would have brought a much different ending. I am not a political activist nor gun nut either but will refuse to surrender my constitutional rights to self defense.

A rediculous bill. We as American citizens had better stand up for our rights and for own protection. This country better turn back to God before it is too late. Clean out both houses when election time comes around again. Get out and vote your convictions on the amendments, etc. We have rights or we did have!
