Ghost Or Egg?

If you watched News 10 Sunday, you know the newscast ended with a bit of controversy. The issue: is this a ghost or an egg?

This picture, and the video shown on News 10, come from the Red Bull Flugtag event held Sunday in Sydney, Australia. If you're not familiar with this event, it's a chance for people to demonstrate their skill at building crazy-looking flying machines that have absolutely NO chance of taking flight. These "inventors" (who have clearly been drinking way too much of the sponsor's product) run their contraptions off of a ramp, which promptly splash into the water some 20 feet below. Each flying machine is scored by a panel of judges - presumably based on design, since none of the machines have much success actually flying.

And as you can see, many of the teams dress up in costumes to match their flying machines, which brings us back to the point of controversy: are these people supposed to be dressed up as eggs or ghosts?

Christopher Heath thinks they're eggs. Adam Winkler and I are on record saying they're supposed to be ghosts. What do you think?

Oh, and if you're interested, Flugtag events are planned later this year in Tampa, Portland, and Chicago. Red Bull's website has forms for you to fill out if you want to compete. Or you could save yourself a lot of pain and embarrassment and watch other people take the plunge!

It's obvious. They're ghosts. What self-respecting egg would parade around in hot pink pants? :-)

Neither. They are snow balls. Everybody knows Austrailia is known for its snow and the Alps. Oh wait; er, that Austria. Never mind! They're drops of Red Bull.

Clearly the costumee is mounting itself onto a flying machine with a birds head - indicating eggdom.
