What are you doing this Saturday (Feb. 7th)? Although it's still winter, it is time to begin thinking about our springtime severe weather threats. To help everyone gear up for our primary storm season, the National Weather Service will present their annual training program "Skywarn 2009" this Saturday at the Bosque Theater in the Waco Convention Center. The basic program begins at 9:00am and runs until 12 noon. Beginning at 1:15pm, the advanced program begins with a scheduled termination around 3:30pm. Although this program was initially created to train storm spotters, it is open to the general public (including children) and is free. Many of you have questions about severe storms and how they form, what risks they produce, etc. The Skywarn program is an excellent way to gain that knowledge, and I think you'll come away saying that it was time well spent! And don't let that afternoon "advanced" segment intimidate you ... that's when the details of storm structure, storm evolution, tornado development, etc. are presented. We hope to see you there!
