I first heard of "Twitter" from my lovely co-worker Emily Matthews, @kwtxemily.   She said it's an internet platform for "sharing" with your "followers" what you are doing from day to day.     I thought, "no, not for me....no one needs to know what I'm doing day to day."

Days later, the buzz was moving through the newsroom and "twittering" was becoming more than a passing phase.  I dropped by the desk of our internet "guru" and probably the smartest guy I've ever worked with, Rick Bradfield.   He told me a bit more about this "craze" and gave me the password for our News 10 account.    Okay, I thought, maybe this is worth checking out.   After going on to the site, www.twitter.com and navigating through the "followers" (those who choose to keep up with a person), I decided this might have some entertainment value.

I dropped by the office of another "tweeter", one of our directors Jason Raddin, @jraddin.   He showed me how to link a picture to my account and became my first "follower."   He told me, "the more you post...the more people will be interested in following you."   So, off I went into the world of TWITTER.

I have to admit, after discovering how MANY people I find interesting who twitter, people like CNN's Larry King, @kingsthings .... CBS's Bob Shieffer, @bobshieffer .... etc...along with those I KNOW like former News 10 Sports Director Matt Iazzetti, @zetti24 ... former News 10 reporter/anchor Ryan Kelly, @rekelly ... News 10 anchor Gordon Collier, @news10guy ... and a host of other "twitter friends" ... I have come to truly enjoy this crazy platform of sometimes "useless" information.

I say, "give it a try" ... follow a few folks ... follow me, @RustyGarrettWx!

Just remember a few common sense tips:   DON'T twitter where you ARE right now.   DO twitter where you've been.  That's especially safer for the female gender.   DON'T get too personal.  No one needs to know when you visit the restroom or any gastro-intestinal details.   Just allow an occasional "glimpse" into facets of your everyday life.   We are after all, a society of "rubber-neckers" aren't we?

One last bit of advice....your boss may be a "tweeter" and may be "following" YOU.    Mine does!

I have become a twitter addict! It's become so popular that even my mom, who doesn't like those sort of things, has a twitter account. I wonder what will come next...

I don't have anything to twitter about, but my 7 dogs are always up to something so they now have their own twitter page! It's "grammascritters"! They have a lot of fun with it!

I Must Say That I Have Become A Twitter Addict!!! I Have Found It To Be A Great Source To Minister & Meet New People. I Guess You Can Say That I've Started A Twitter Ministry. I Look Forward To Tweeting Everyday. I Thank You Rusty For The Weather Updates. The Weather Updates Really Come In Handy When You Are Out & About, And You Are Not In Front Of The TV Set To See What's Going On. Thanks & Keep On "Tweeting"
