Two things right off the bat: 1. American Airlines is my current favorite airline. 2. I definitely took for granted the lack of rush hour traffic in Waco. First, the flight. I had been notified by Dan that my flight from Dallas to San Francisco could have WiFi on the plane. Sure enough it did, and I was fully willing to pay any price for it because the Baylor men were playing the exact time of my flight. I logged into the payment screen, but to my surprise an error message came up that said it was down. But here's the catch: It said I could use their WiFi for free! Jackpot. The NCAA tournament looks better from 32,000 feet up. Trust me. My flight went quite well, so I was feeling pretty good. I went and got my rental car, headed up the 101 (I've always wanted to be able to say that) and was cruising...for about three minutes. Rush hour traffic. What was a typical 15 drive from San Fran to Berkeley turned into 45 minutes to an hour. I can't complain too much, my Ohio Bobcats were on the radio en route to beating Georgetown (yes, I picked Ohio to win in my bracket). Today was meet the press day for all four participating teams. Georgetown, Marist, Baylor and Fresno State. I was able to listen in on the Georgetown presser and low and behold a reporter from a certain national publication was there asking about Brittney Griner. To be fair, he was apparently writing a story about how women's sports have become more aggresive in recent years, referring not just to Griner, but also the soccer player, and some other incidents. I wasn't surprise, it's to be expected. We've all heard Mulkey's response to any questions regarding Griner, and take it from me: IT HASN'T CHANGED. After the Baylor presser I ran over to the practice court and caught the very end of the Marist practice. They were taking half court shots, then taking pictures, and looked a little too relaxed. Talk about a team happy to be there. Baylor's practice started and it couldn't have been more the opposite. The Lady Bears have a tight run ship and it's actually fun to watch. Here's to hoping tomorrows game will be just as fun to watch! More from the Berkeley Beat later... |
