Hey San Francisco, long time listener, first time caller. Due to the fact Baylor did not play until 9:30 CT, I took the liberty of BART-ing over to San Francisco in the morning. BART is their subway system to get from Berkeley to Oakland to San Fran and so on. I'm thinking Waco needs to develop a subway system. Those drives from Woodway to Elm Mott are pretty lengthy. When I came up to street level, I was lost. I had no sense of direction as to where I was. So the sensible person in me decide, heck, let's just walk. So that's what I did and boy what a payoff! First, I passed a street that was closed off because they were shooting a car commercial. I can't wait to see the finished product! Oh wait, I forgot to look what kind of car it was. My trek continued for a while and then I happened to be at the right place at the right time. A fender bender. Before I sound too cynical, no one was hurt and it was evident that no one was from the low-speed impact. But that didn't stop some heated discussions. I'll leave direct quotes out of it, but it was colorful yelling. It wasn't too much later Brice Cherry of the Waco Trib met up with me and we got some lunch at Boudin's. Sourdough bread is delicious. That's all you need to know. Then we were back on the streets. We tried to catch a cable car at that point, but a clearly disgruntled employee wouldn't let us "visitors" on at that point. So we walked. And we walked. And we walked. I don't know if you knew this, but San Francisco has 1,238,443 Piers. Ok, maybe that's an exaggeration, but there were a lot. It was absolutely worth it. We then hunted down a cable car and sailed back to our subway station. Then I napped. Then it was game time. Kind of like a cable car going up the San Fran streets, the Lady Bears took a little while to get going. Attribute it to tournament jitters, the week to prepare, or whatever, they were sluggish and sloppy. Luckily, so was Fresno State. Baylor got it going in the second half though and cruised to a victory in the first round. Now they have the privilige of facing a young gun team in Georgetown. This Hoyas team is loose, real loose. I believe they have a nothing-to-lose mentality whereas Baylor has a tradition and expectation to protect. We'll see how it plays out, but get ready for a true test for the Lady Bears. Georgetown will (obviously) try and take away Griner, but Baylor should be good enough to get her the touches she needs for the team to win. Until gametime... |
