Time for a political chat on the blog here.
Take a look at the picture above of Rachael Ray. This is taken from an ad for Dunkin' Donuts that she was in. Notice the scarf. No? Well some people did. And because of this scarf, she and Dunkin' Donuts have been called terrorists in hiding.
Commentator Michelle Malkin has accused Dunkin' Donuts of sympthizing with terrorists because of the scarf in question. Apparently it looks a little too much like a keffiyeh:
"The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad," Malkin said. "Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant and not-so-ignorant fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons."
So now the fun begins. Dunkin' Donuts (who has much better coffee than Starbucks...why aren't there more around??) has to put out a statement of its own:
"In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial."
All this over a scarf. Now don't we have other more pressing issues to worry about? Gas prices...electing a president...severe weather? Seems like this may just be a fashion accident, not a declaration of a jihad. Let's move on please.
