Got an email from a viewer about a new type of HDTV that she heard about in Japan. So I did a some investigating and found out a little information.
Super Hi-Vision, more commonly known as ultra high definition video, is a television format that is being experimented with in Japan. It uses over 4000 lines of resolution on the picture it's showing. In comparison, the HDTVs of today show either 720 and 1080 lines of resolution. Wow.
It was first talked about a few years ago. And don't expect anything anytime soon. Estimates are that it will take at least 20 years for it to get on the market. There needs to be advances in technology with fiber optics to that the TVs can be made in mass supply with the ability to stream the amount of information needed to make the super crystal clear picture that will be seen. Also advances will need to be made in cameras and other equipment so they could shoot video in this format. And who knows how expensive a UHDV television will cost.
So for now, just enjoy the TV you have. We have a little bit of a wait for the next generation of televisions.
