Larry Robinson - Jonesboro I.S.D. - November Boss of the Month

At Jonesboro High School, Larry Robinson guides his Ag Science 322 class through it's latest project. Now you might be thinking, that is one good looking bus seat, but is that all it takes to win Boss of the Month?

Yes and no. "Yes", the bus seat was assembled to perfection - and while being a great teacher might impress News 10's Golden Apple Award committee, "No", it won't win you Boss of the Month.

You see, Larry Robinson is not just an Ag teacher, in charge of five classes a day. He also happens to be the Superintendent of Jonesboro I.S.D.

Robinson says "well you get to wear many hats. There's no delegation because there's nobody to delegate to."

Jonesboro I.S.D.'s business manager Gail Miller says "I mean he's the guy that runs the place. For him to step to the forefront and do as much as he's done for this school district it just makes me very proud to work here."

As a district of declining enrollment, finding extra funds in Jonesboro I.S.D. is about as difficult as getting an "A" in Trigonometry. So when the district lost it's Ag teacher just before the school year, for Robinson, the solution to the equation was right in front of him.

"It's been about 11 years since I've been in the classroom, that was my field of study. So in order to save the district money this year, i went back to the classroom," states Robinson.

And just how did Robinson save the district money? Because he's teaching all of those extra classes for zero extra dollars.

"It's just amazing to me that he is that concerned. He is so concerned about every child on this campus," says Miller.

So for his "class" move back to teaching, and for putting the "super" in Superintendent, Larry Robinson is November's News 10 Boss of the Month.

Robinson remarks, "in order for them to have the best education available because we are hear and that's our job."
