As a die-hard Alabama football fan, Chuck Medley expects his Crimson Tide to show the nation what they're made of when 'Bama takes on Texas in the BCS title game next week.
Because after all, elite teams are at their best on the biggest stage...with it all on the line...as the pressure is mounting. something Mr. Medley is quite familiar with.
"Nobody ever wants to go through what we went through on November the 5th, but the key from an emergency services standpoint is preparedness," says Medley.
As the Director of Emergency Management Services at Fort Hood, Medley's men and women were the first on the scene November 5th, when a gunman opened fire at the solider readiness center on post.
Medley notes, "that doesn't just happen. That's the product of a lot of hard work by a lot of people over the course of the year."
Fort Hood Chief of Police David Ross says "I put that training venue into my captains hands. Captain Munson, Captain Jerry Staton, and those guys pretty much did what we needed them to do, with the direction of what Mr. Medley provided."
Medley adds, "I served in Iraq and I led some soldiers in combat, but I've never been more proud that I was that day. Our police officers, both civilian police officers and military police officers responded magnificently and I was very, very proud of the way they responded and the way they respond every day."
There are lives he saved on November 5th, and many others that he's helped piece back together, following November 5th. So for leadership and direction, then and now, Chuck Medley is December's News 10 Boss of the Month.
"I'm very humbled by it and I'm honored to accept it on behalf of our employees. They do all the work around here every day. Our men and women are truly professionals and I look at it as a reflection on them," says Medley.
