Kathy Reid - Executive Director, Family Abuse Center - April Boss of the Month

WACO (April 28, 2010)--The white board inside Waco's Family Abuse Center, diagrams the structure of a successful non-profit organization. And no matter how you draw it up, Kathy Reid has clearly "made her mark".

"Oh, I think it took her about two seconds to take the helm," says Virginia Feaster, the Director of Development for the Family Abuse Center.

Seth Miller, the Center's Director of Residential Services, adds "she was making decisions, good decisions, from the moment she walked in the door."

As the executive director of the Family Abuse Center, Reid oversees a facility that shelters victims of domestic violence. The Center houses as many as 75 people at one time. 60 percent of which, are children.

"The work is overwhelming at times, and that I knew was going to be hard. 24 hours a day, we're serving three meals a day, two snacks a day, it just does not stop. No two days are alike," says Reid.

"The thing I'm most impressed with is her very high standard of ethics," adds Feaster.

Miller notes, "she really holds her ground when she's not convenient, even when ethics say you have to do this, she still holds her ground for what's best and whats the best practice."

Reid attributes her strong morals to her faith, she is an ordained minister after all. But you're more likely to mistake her for a doctor, because she's helped make the Abuse Center a place of healing thanks to a healthy dose strong leadership. Kathy Reid is April's News 10 Boss of the Month.

"It's just overwhelming. I'm humbled and honored and I just feel privileged. Every day I can come in to work with this bunch, it's a great day."
