WACO (May 26, 2010)--Jimmy McDonald feels like he's the quarterback of a really good team. And like any good quarterback, he puts in some long hours at work.
Route Manager Larry Marek says, "he'll come out there and help us work. He'll come on the weekend on his days off. He'll stay late, he'll work until 10:00."
He might help sell the beverage that you're supposed to drink at 10, 2, and 4, but as District Manager of the Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group, McDonald is running the show around the clock.
"I'm here at 4:30 every morning and we stay to anywhere from 4:30 to 6 at night," says McDonald.
Office Manager Coyla Cortez adds, "he really cares about everybody here, so if anybody needs anything, he's right on top of it."
And believe it or not, McDonald still finds time in his schedule to umpire high school softball and sing country music once a month at the Grapevine Oprey.
And along with carrying a tune, McDonald is carrying around some hardware these days, as he helped lead the Waco plant to the highest Dr. Pepper sales per capita in the country.
"Jimmy is also a salesman and he's a big part of us winning the per capita award," notes Cortez.
McDonald says, "in Waco, Texas where we're known as the birthplace of Dr. Pepper, you don't want anyone else having that title."
And McDonald better make some more room in that trophy case, because he's May's News 10 Boss of the Month.
"I don't really consider myself the boss, I'm part of this team, and I'll go out and help anyone in any department we have. I'm just here to take care of our customers," McDonald states.
