Former First Lady Cleared To Leave Texas Hospital

Former First Lady Barbara Bush went home Saturday after a nearly week-long stay in a Texas hospital.

HOUSTON (January 4, 2014) Former First Lady Barbara Bush was discharged late Saturday morning from the Houston hospital where she spent nearly a week for a respiratory-related issue, Bush spokesman Jim McGrath said.

McGrath says doctors at Houston Methodist Hospital cleared her to go home earlier Saturday morning.

Bush, 88, the family matriarch, had been hospitalized since Monday.

McGrath says she Bush responded well to medication and "she's great."

He had no other immediate details on her condition or future treatment.

She and her husband, the 41st president, live in Houston.

The nation's longest-married presidential first couple will celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary Monday.
