Republicans Stand Their Ground; It’s What Constituents Want

HEBER CITY, Utah (February 15, 2013)--Republicans are continuing to defy President Obama primarily because it’s what their constituents want them to do.

Republican voters are less likely than others to support compromise.

During a trip back to his congressional district last week, U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, got an earful from residents who support his stand against much of the president's agenda.

Chaffetz told voters he wants to explain Utah to Washington rather than the other way around.

His constituents gave him plenty of encouragement.

One asked why Obama hasn't been impeached.

Others urged him to push harder on the Benghazi, Libya attack that killed four Americans, or for deeper spending cuts.

Analysts worry that this defiant talk damages the Republican brand.

Chaffetz said the problem is the party hasn't communicated well with voters.
