WASHINGTON (November 11, 2012)--The CIA, FBI and White House are facing questions from Congress about the love life of the former CIA chief David Petraeus and how his e-mails came under investigation.
Petraeus resigned post Friday after acknowledging an extramarital affair.
Lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee want to know how the FBI investigation that led to Petraeus' resignation came about, according to a senior congressional staffer who spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly.
Members of the Senate intelligence committee have similar questions.
FBI officials say the committees weren't informed because the investigation started as a criminal probe into harassing e-mails sent by Petraeus' paramour, a 40-year-old graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and an Army Reserve officer, to another woman.
