WASHINGTON (February 9, 2010)—As part of her effort to teach America’s children about better nutrition and exercise, First Lady Michelle Obama is launching a nationwide campaign against childhood obesity.

She says the Let's Move campaign will encourage more physical activity for children along with healthier foods in schools and more accurate food labeling.

Some of her initiatives will require congressional action including tax breaks for grocery stores to move into poorly served communities.

In the Oval Office Tuesday, President Barack Obama signed a memorandum creating a task force on childhood obesity and said his wife is tackling one of "the most urgent health issues facing the country."

The government is trying to get schools to offer healthier school lunches, yet I see more than one set of parents bringing fast food to the school daily for their already overweight children. Schooling children in proper nutrition isn't going to completely solve the problem as they are not the ones who purchase the unhealthy foods that are kept in the homes.

many many years ago, children played outside for hours at a time. they did not have to worry about such things as drive by shootings, kidnapping, sexual predators, and such. children back then were much healthier. children these days spend their time in front of video games, the Wii, XBox, whatever, getting no physical activity at all. Parents are so busy these days working endless hours to try to stay afloat from all their debts that they have no time to cook, so they swing by fast food and bring it home. To make up for the lack of activity their children has, they enroll them in all kinds of things and we wind up with children who are soooooo tired from playing basketball, soccer, swimming, etc. all at the age of 6 or 7. organized sports were unheard of for children that young many years ago and yet we were still healthier than now.

"Out of shape"? Sam please, that is one fine and beautiful woman, not to mention intelligent. And apparently she is so attractive the media has a fit when she does not wear sleeves on her dresses.
