WASHINGTON (March 10, 2010)--The Washington Post says more than two-dozen people have canceled subscriptions since a photo of two men kissing ran on the front page of the newspaper.
The photo was taken last Wednesday, which was the first day same-sex couples could apply for marriage licenses in Washington.
It appeared in the newspaper the next day.
The paper's ombudsman, Andrew Alexander, reports on his blog that 27 subscribers canceled their subscriptions, specifically citing the photo.
He wrote that while complaints usually subside quickly, in this case complaints continued through Tuesday.
Readers suggested the photo should have been placed in the paper's Metro section or that it shouldn’t have been run at all.
Alexander disagreed and defended the paper's decision to run the photo prominently.

Wah, I saw a couple of gay guys smooching in the paper. I'm going to cancel my subscription. Wah! I think seeing two gay guys kiss is gross too but, I think pictures of gruesome car accidents are gross too. Nobody cancels because of that. Time for you Christian conservatives to grow up and realize religion is not law! If you want to live in a land where religion is law you can move your self right on over to the middle east. Then we can see how well you are tolerated over there.
Anonymous, Shut up Moron, who asked you? No One! so delete your idiotic post ASAP. and stop fighting it, give into your feelings
When are these gays going to realize that man on man relations is not accepted... I will tolerate it, but I will never accept it. Call me closed minded, but that is just sick... soon we will see animals and people getting married.... what a world.
