INDIANAPOLIS (March 12, 2010)—Eric Workman, 18, the top-ranked senior at a suburban Indianapolis high school is asking a federal judge to stop a graduation prayer that the class voted to approve.

Workman’s lawsuit claims the prayer and the vote at Greenwood High School unconstitutionally subject religious practice to majority rule.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana filed the lawsuit on Workman's behalf.

It says, "He does not believe that anyone should involuntarily be subjected to prayer and religious beliefs."

But Micah Clark, executive director of the American Family Association of Indiana, said, "Part of being an adult is learning to tolerate speech you don't like."

Brian P., it's, "...for the LOVE of money is the root of all evil". (The most misquoted scripture in history) That kinda puts it into perspective when we put 'In God We Trust' on our currency. Nothing in the bible says that money is evil. 'In God We Trust' reminds us not to become greedy and coveting of money. As it goes for the students, they do have their rights under law to practice their religion. When has anyone ever forced you to go to church? It sounds like you are lashing out because maybe your parents made you go. Well, that was their right as your legal gaurdians. I assume you are an adult now. No one is going to force you to go to church.

Because Christians are the majority in Texas does that mean I should be forced to go to church? No! There is a difference between majority rule and personal freedom. Something you will probably never learn in church. And while I'm at it, doesn't anyone think that putting "In God we trust" on "The root of all evil" kind of cheapens the idea of God?

Ya Toss this isn't Canada so why do you even care? I think the way to be fair on all parts is to have a moment of silence for "prayer and/or reflection". Assuming that everyone in attendance of a "public school" function wants to pray to God is arrogant and classless.
