DETROIT (March 17, 2010)--Robert Bobb, the Detroit Public Schools' emergency financial manager, has unveiled a plan calling for closing 45 schools over the next five years.

The complete list and the timetable for closing them were to be released Wednesday.

Bobb's five-year master facilities plan also calls for renovating some schools and consolidating others into smaller and newer buildings.

Bobb says the closings are a response to a projected drop in enrollment from the current 87,700 to 56,500 in 2015.

The district closed 35 buildings about three years ago.

Bobb ordered 29 more closed last year to help cut a budget deficit that now stands at $219 million.
