Prayers Over PA System End At Public High School
A student’s question has led to the end of daily prayers over the PA system of a public high school in Alabama.

ALEXANDRIA, Ala. (March 19, 2010)--The Christian influence at the public high school in Alexandria, Ala., is still visible, but it's a little less overt, after a student questioned the practice of daily prayers over the school’s PA system.

At Alexandria High School, flyers printed with Bible verses hang on the walls and weekly Bible studies are held before class,

But the daily prayers have ended after the student demanded they stop in a voicemail sent to Superintendent Judy Stiefel.

The student also contacted the American Civil Liberties Union to complain about the practice.

In response, Stiefel sent an e-mail this week to every school in the system in which she "reminded them of the law."

The morning prayers at Alexandria High stopped Tuesday.

Ronnie you, like many others, don't seem to understand the principle that majority or "might" does not make right. Even if it is in the name of God. Perhaps kids and teachers could "DO" something about getting good grades or behaving themselves in school rather than just praying for it and hoping for the best? It irritates me that people don't understand why prayer and religion is not taught in school? Here is a concept people might understand better. Church is in one building at certain times of the week, and school is in a different building at certain other times of the week. There many types of religions and denominations but, only one type of public school. Thus the reason that one religion will not be promoted in a public school where kids of different religions and denominations attend.

I am disappointed that the prayer of the day cannot go out over the PA System at the high school.....but this does NOT stop individual students from saying a prayer or prayers!!!

Once the voice of one has silence the voice of the majority. If we keep taking God out of our schools and not allow the students to pray and ask for protection guidance and knowledge for the day, then we are asking for more instances of violence and degredation in our schools. We cannot keep allowing the aclu to make decisions for us. I pray that one day soon the aclu will realize that they are harming our society not protecting it.
