PHILADELPHIA (January 31, 2012)--The 3-year-old daughter of GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum is recovering from pneumonia after she was hospitalized near her family’s home in Virginia, rather than in Philadelphia, as originally reported.

In a statement Tuesday, campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley said the family decided on a local hospital after a news release went out about 3-year-old Bella.

The release said Bella was admitted Saturday to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, but Gidley now says the Santorums ended up taking her to a hospital in Virginia.

Gidley says the release was later corrected on the campaign website.

Gidley didn't specify the hospital.

Philadelphia hospital spokeswoman Rachel Salis-Silverman says staff could not disclose whether Bella was a patient without family consent.

Bella has a genetic condition and was not expected to live past her first birthday.
