WASHINGTON (August 31, 2010)--Some states that are suing in an effort to reverse President Barack Obama's health care overhaul law are also lining up to claim a share of its subsidies for the medical costs of retired employees.
An administration official says seven states suing the federal government applied for and will receive subsidies to help with health care costs of early retirees.
The states are Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska and Nevada.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of Tuesday's official announcement.
About 2,000 employers have already been approved for the extra help, mainly private businesses.
The list includes about half of the Fortune 500 companies.
The health care law provides $5 billion to help employers maintain retiree coverage.

I would like to thank the states that are suing ,Obama gave us change ,more debt, more taxes, more welfare, more regulations, more government, more wasteful spending ,more corruption and for the first time no increase in social security for the ones that payed into it.
It is a shame that these states can’t refrain from taking the handouts (Even though it is their own money they are getting back, albeit 10 cents on the dollar), which Texas was smart enough to refuse. Those handouts come with strings that force those states to later pay more money (Than they get from the Feds) in the increased funding required to maintain Fed mandated programs. (i.e. The Feds never miss an opportunity to gain tighter control over local funds going to retirees, and thus more control over the retirees themselves.) The Pied Piper plays the luring tune, and states (As well as thoughtless masses) follow along behind to the gloom of pending darkness. JR
