Okay, I am forced to concede that a lot of what Observer is saying about the happenings of the Republicans and deregulation for profit is true. (Even though I have had threads w/ Oserver opposing most everything else). Paul says in the Bible that religion is this - to take care of widows and orphans (implying a sense of responsibility of society to the downtrodden). Citizen had it right about the highway system & keeping to the point. The point is health care, and the Dems have it wrong about making it gov run. Health ins companies and medical services need proper regulation in the worst way. Placing gov in charge of providing health care is misuse of the purpose of gov, costly, dangerous to our level of care, dangerous to our economy and costly to every American.

Here's a little trivia for you...something you apparently do not know: Republicans in charge of Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae had told Democrats that the two mortgage giants were hunky-dory & did not need reforming when Republican Chuck Hagel's bill to reform them was in Committee. At the same time, Republicans at Freddie Mac paid a Republican lobbying firm TWO MILLION DOLLARS SECRETLY (Under the table) to lobby Republicans to KILL Chuck Hagel's reform bill so they could continue their gravy train of fraud, greed & looting at Freddie & Fannie. For over a year, DCI (the Reublican lobbying firm) lobbied 17 Senators in 13 states to kill Hagel's bill, which subsequently died in Committee. Republican greed killed Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae. You must have missed this story when even FOX NEWS reported it.

leaving some history out there aren't you Observer? What about the two bills brought to congress (controlled by Democrats) by the republicans about freddie and frannie that were shot down by Barney Frank and Maxine Waters? (both democrats) Who has pushed the issue about loaning billions in mortgages to people that had no chance on repaying them? Frank and Waters. oops and let us not forget the good ol democrat supported Acorn bunch. who is STILL PUSHING and saying we need to increase the stupid lending practices? Frank and Waters. oh no left out one more guilty party-Chris Dodd. check out you tube it has a a real nice video of Fwank testifying about how 'sound' fannie and freddie were and it is just because of racisim that anyone is asking questions. having everyting on video now adays really bites huh?

As a 5th generation Texan, I see what the Republican Party has done to harm America. Their never-seen-the-like-of-before corruption, their greed, their removal of oversight to enrich themselves, & their having big business lobbyists SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO THEM IN CONGRESS, actually wrting the bad laws to benefit big business (esp. ENRON & Republican Senator Phil Gramm). Republicans told Congress (controlled by Democrats) that Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae were hunky-dory & then secretly (UNDER THE TABLE!) paid Republican lobbying firm DCI TWO MILLION DOLLARS to kill Chuck Hagel's bill to restore regulation to the two mortgage giants so they could continue their gravy train of greed. I do not hate Republicans, but I do hate what Republicans have done to America. BTW, personal attacks on me do not make me wrong & you right. Just shows you have NO CLASS! LOL!

Observer must be one of those California or northern transplants that screwed up their state then fled to Texas but still hold on to their utopia theories that messed up the state they left. Just look at California for an example of how well liberal thinking works. California is no longer a state it is a waste land over run with illegals and liberals...

Hey Observer I want you to try something. Go drive through the poorest part of Bryan and find a family barley making ends meet. I want you to get their name and address and every week when you get paid send them 30% of your take home pay. Do this for one year and then go visit them again and let me know if they used your money to improve themselves (college, trade school, home business) or if they used it for a big screen TV, and beer money. Do that and let me know how you feel when the year is over.

Observer you are a TRUE LIBERAL you try to use points that don't even apply to back your argument. Telling Bob not to use the highway system if he doesn't pay his taxes is irrelevent. The highway system is built through funds raised 59 cents at a time for every gallon of fuel we buy. The biggest majority of highway funding is from the state and not the fedral goverment. The only time federal funds are passed out is when some senator has a pork barrel project he runs through so he can get his name in the paper (ie. Chet Edwards) If you want to argue what a waste of money heatlhcare is then argue that but quit trying to change the subject. No one here is against disabled people being taken care of. It is the people who choose to sit home on the porch and drink all day rather than go out and find work or go get a FREE education that upset me. The thought of me working 10 hours a day so they can be taken care of really makes me mad.

OH I have read my bible and God helps those that help themselves. Taking care of the poor and those that can not take care of themselves used to be a church function. Taxes do not take a small percent of anyone's income. Also, we are not talking about infrastructure, defense, or anything else...we were talking about health care. The govt. should not and does not have the right to force me or anyone else to take care of anyone outside of my family! In this country we do it because we want to. America is the most generous country in the world. Also, ANYONE, other than people suffering from the examples you gave can better themselves...but you did not mention them in your first post. I assumed you were talking about the poor. Most of them are poor because of decisions they make and have made in the past.

Keep ALL your money, Bob. Just be sure you never use any federally-funded infra-structure (highways & roads), or take advantage of any public services or public works or ANYTHING provided by federal funds. If you do that, you can sit there in your vehicle in the pasture & enjoy not participating in a world made better by your tax dollars being used for the greater good of the country. Taxes- a small percentage of income-is a small price to pay for the wonderful financial opportunities offered by America. You must not have read that part in the Bible that says that the Poor will be with you always and to take care of them. Maybe you have never read the Bible, as uncharitable as you sound. Not everyone in this country regardless of their situation has the opportunity to better themselves. The Down Syndrome adult, the MHMR patient, the Alzheimer sufferer, & the chronically ill adult are just a few examples of no opportunity to better themselves. No one limits income.

Comrade Observer, there is nothing wrong with me keeping the money that I make. The more I keep the more I spend and grow the economy. Also, "pay my fair share"? What the heck is that? The top 50 percent of Americans pay 97 percent of ALL federal income taxes. I think I pay more than my fair share. The graduated income tax is immoral and just flat out wrong. Many are poor in this country because of laziness, drug and/or alcohol addiction, or lack of education. For more than 40 years we have thrown billions up billions of dollars at poverty and still poverty is here....and you libs, oops socialists claim that is because we still havent spent enough. By the way, no one has a right to tell anyone else that they make too much money. In this country EVERYONE has the oppurtunity to better themself regardless of their situation!

Typical Republican greediness with no compassion. "I made it, I want to keep all of it--not pay my fair share--so let me keep mine & you go out & make yours like I did!" However, many Americans cannot go out & make a good living--due to their limitations--whether it be health issues--both physical & mental-- or they have no opportunity to further themselves to be in a position to enrich themselves, or do not have the smarts,skills & talent it takes to become affluent in America today. Most Americans do not become affluent--thus the large middle class in America. If you, CITIZEN, pay a 30% tax rate, you are a very affluent American. Not every American can work for Walmart. By the same token, not every American can be a CEO or a business owner. Do you also have money hidden in an offshore Cayman Island account you are evading taxes on? Not accusing you--just wondering. Tax Evasion of that sort is a typical affluent-American-ploy to pay less taxes. It is also illegal.
