WASHINGTON (November 9, 2009)--Abortion opponents in the U.S. Senate want tough restrictions in the health care overhaul bill, similar to the limits passed by the House this past weekend, but the issue could roil an already shaky Democratic effort to pass a health care bill by year's end for President Barack Obama.

Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska said Monday it's highly unlikely he would support a bill that doesn't clearly prohibit federal dollars from going to pay for abortions.

His spokesman said Nelson is weighing options, including offering an amendment similar to the one passed by the House.

The limits in the House bill have angered liberals, some of whom are now threatening to vote against health care legislation if the curbs stay in.

Abortion will be in the final bill. It will be stuck in there in one of those closed door meetings along with a lot of other things...

Minuteman, you call it 'sticking THEIR noses in EVERYONE's business' because you consider their 'business' part of their own rights. So many times we confuse our own rights over that of an unborn child's right to life. That confusion is used as a rationalization of how we deal with our mistakes (abortion), and we call it our rights (above the scrutiny of others). Abortion isn't an inalienable right, so I guess someone does need to cry long and loud for the right of that unborn child's right to life.

I wish they would pass a ban and it would be nice if they could make it retroactive since there is no statute of limitations on murder! That way we can prosecute all that have had abortions as well as those that performed them! i wonder how many bible thumping conservatives would be on that list! Considering the people i went to school and church with, ...quite a few! More realistically though would be that a ban would make abortions no longer protected medical information so that information by law should be made available to the public! That would be great too!
