WASHINGTON (November 17, 2009)--A new Associated Press poll finds that Americans favor taxing the rich to pay for covering those without health insurance.
Of all the approaches that Congress is considering to pay for President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, the only one that got majority support in the AP poll was a new income tax on upper-income Americans, which is the approach House Democrats took in their health care legislation, passed earlier this month.
The poll found 57 percent in favor of the idea, and 36 percent opposed.
In contrast, the public does not favor a tax on high-value insurance plans under consideration in the Senate.
Fifty-six percent were opposed and only 29 percent in favor of that idea, which is also opposed by organized labor.

And exactly what do these pollsters consider rich???? I say we can save the goverment billions by doing away with the IRS, get rid of their sliding scale and loopholes. Then go to a national sales tax of 10%. This way every person living in this country would pay taxes. We all know that the illegals don't currently file tax returns, so if we are going to insure them at least make them contribute.........
This is the new American way: Punish the successful in order to reward the lazy. I agree with a flat tax for everyone... 5% for every taxpayer. 10% for every taxpaying business. NO LOOPHOLES, NO EXEMPTIONS, NO REFUNDS. The government should stop the welfare program RIGHT NOW, and stop granting millions of dollars to every crazy project that crosses a Senators desk! A flat tax and strict government spending will stimulate the economy beyond belief! If the welfare program is stopped, maybe, JUST MAYBE, some of those people collecting benefits will get a job, and that will stimulate the economy too!
Equal giving is not equal. Equal taxing is equal ! Do away with all the loop holes and just tax everbody 10 percent whether you make $100 or $1000000 you stil pay the same 10 percent
