WASHINGTON (June 22, 2013)--President Barack Obama Saturday was trumpeting a report that says a Senate immigration overhaul would reduce the deficit by almost $1 trillion over two decades.
He said the time for excuses has passed.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, Mr. Obama pointed to a new analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and said the Senate's bipartisan bill would boost the economy by more than 5 percent.
Mr. Obama wasn’t specifically addressing a military-style surge to border security added to the bill to win over Republicans, but he said the bill is consistent with his principles.
In the Republican address, U.S. Rep. John Kline, R-Minn., said Mr. Obama must show leadership to avoid an impending student loan interest rate hike.
He said Senate Democrats are blocking both Mr. Obama's plan and a House Republican plan.
