Another Bush Weighs A Run In Texas

AUSTIN (January 12, 2013)--George Prescott Bush is gearing up to run for a little-known but powerful office in Texas, where his family already is a political dynasty.

He hopes a run for Texas land commissioner next year and his Hispanic roots can help the state's Republican Party maintain its stranglehold on power.

Bush spoke Friday to The Associated Press in his first interview since filing paperwork to seek elected statewide office in November.

He said he wouldn’t make a final decision until this summer, when it's clear whether Gov. Rick Perry will seek another term.

Bush is the grandson of one former president and the nephew of another.

There’s speculation he’ll seek the offices of Texas land commissioner, attorney general or even run as a gubernatorial challenger to Perry.
