Bush Library, Museum Turned Over To National Archives

DALLAS (April 24, 2013)--The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas was handed over to U.S. National Archives and Records Administration Wednesday.

Bush and his wife, Laura, attended the ceremony in Dallas a day before the official dedication of the George W. Bush Presidential Center.

The George W. Bush Foundation raised the money to build the center.

The foundation donated the library and museum portion of the center to the National Archives, which provides access to presidential records, documents, historical materials and artifacts over time.

The Bush library, on the campus of Southern Methodist University, opens to the public May 1.

The library's archives include more than 43,000 artifacts, 70 million pages of paper records and 200 million e-mails.

This is the 13th presidential library operated by NARA.
