BELL COUNTY (October 30, 2012) --- A week before Election Day, the two candidates for Bell County sheriff talked Tuesday about changes they plan if elected.

"I would like to try to get in and see where my patrol needs are first then work with that and work throughout the other situations and things that are needed in the office," Democrat Frank Hernandez said.

"Starting out at the sheriff's office our pay is in the twenties, whereas a starting officer in Killeen is already in the thirties just as a rookie, so it's difficult for us to compete in the marketplace and with my experience as a county commissioner I'm going to be working with those gentleman and or ladies depending on who gets elected to try to get our pay increase," Republican Eddy Lange said.

Lange also said he'd like to eliminate the 90-day rotating shift jail employees now work for a standard shift that would allow them to go back to school or get a part-time job.
