WASHINGTON (January 4, 2013)—Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the oath of office to President Barack Obama on Jan. 20 at the White House, as required under the Constitution, the Presidential Inaugural Committee said.

Because Jan. 20 falls on a Sunday, Roberts will also perform the swearing-in the next day at the public inaugural ceremony at the U.S. Capitol.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will swear in Vice President Joe Biden.

Mr. Obama followed tradition in choosing the chief justice to swear him in.

Biden chose Sotomayor, who will be the first Hispanic judge to administer the oath.
