Colorado Lawmakers OK Gun Bill Limiting Magazines To 15 Rounds

DENVER (March 13, 2013)—After fierce debate, a bill that limits most magazines to 15 rounds was on its way Wednesday to Colorado’s governor, who says he’ll sign the measure.

The 15-round magazine limit would make Colorado the first state outside of the East Coast to ratchet back gun rights after last year's deadly shooting sprees.

Colorado's gun-control debates have been closely watched because of the state's gun-loving frontier heritage and painful history of mass shootings.

Colorado lawmakers were still negotiating Wednesday on another bill that would expand background-check requirements to most private and online gun sales.

The measures are part of a Democratic gun control package that has drawn thousands to the state Capitol over the past week.

The GOP calls the whole package a bad reaction to last year's deadly shootings in Newtown, Conn., and at a suburban Denver movie theater.
