Cruz Sees Silver Lining In Government Shutdown

(October 26, 2013) President Barack Obama says the partial government shutdown offers an opportunity for Democrats to show voters the virtues of their vision for government ahead of the 2014 midterm elections, but U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, sees a silver lining.

Mr. Obama said Friday at a fundraiser that the bitter budget fight "a symptom of a larger challenge" concerning what role the government should play in helping Americans succeed.

But Cruz says the partial federal government shutdown is a win for Republicans because it got people talking about the Affordable Care Act conservatives want to dismantle.

He spoke to influential Iowa Republicans Friday, again calling the health care overhaul a disaster and saying the shutdown "elevated the national debate."
