AUSTIN (March 14, 2013)—Two-term State. Rep. Naomi Gonzalez, D-El Paso, was in the Travis County Jail Thursday afternoon, charged with driving while intoxicated after an early-morning accident near downtown Austin.

Her bond was set at $5,000, according to online jail records.

Gonzalez, 34, was arrested after the BMW she was driving rear-ended another car, which in turn struck a bicyclist at around 2 a.m. Thursday, Austin police spokesman Jermaine Kilgore said.

Gonzalez and the bicyclist, whose name wasn’t released, were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Kilgore said.

Aides at her Capitol office declined immediate comment.

Gonzalez was first elected to the Texas House in 2010.

She serves on a House ethics committee.
