EL PASO (September 10, 2013)--U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan continued his four-state, back-to-school bus tour Tuesday with a visit to West Texas.
Duncan visited a community college Tuesday in El Paso where he met students who are taking advanced high school classes.
The visit was intended to highlight the importance of collaboration between high schools and colleges.
In the afternoon, he was scheduled to travel to the border village of Columbus, N.M., to talk about the challenges of educating diverse populations.
Other federal education officials will visit different venues in El Paso and Las Cruces, N.M., to discuss early education for children with disabilities and participate in panel discussions on autism, bilingual education and leadership.
Duncan also is scheduled to make stops this week in Arizona and California.
