Electoral College Means Not All Votes Are Equal

WASHINGTON (September 28, 2012)—Under the system used to elect U.S. presidents, each state's Electoral College votes are based on the size of the state’s congressional delegation and not its population.

That means a presidential vote cast in Wyoming mathematically counts more than three times as much as a vote in Ohio, at least in terms of choosing electors.

Besides that, candidates are concentrating on just nine battleground states, virtually ignoring the 79 percent of the population who live in the remaining 41 states.
