Ex-President’s Condition Improves, But He’s Still Hospitalized

HOUSTON (December 5, 2012)--Former President George H.W. Bush, 88, was undergoing more physical therapy Wednesday as part of treatment for a painful cough that has forced him to stay in a Houston hospital for almost two weeks.

Methodist Hospital spokesman George Kovacik said Wednesday that the 41st president remains in stable condition with a bronchitis-related cough.

Kovacik said Bush has been increasing his physical therapy activities, such as getting up and moving around more Wednesday than he has in the past few days.

Kovacik said doctors are pleased with Bush's improvement, but no date has been set for his discharge.

Bush has been hospitalized since the day after Thanksgiving.

Bush's ailment is described as not life threatening, but painful.

Bush and his wife, Barbara, split their time between homes in Houston and Kennebunkport, Maine.
